![]() May 29-31, 2008 | Conference in Hong Kong, China Beyond Our Past: Bible, Cultural Identity, and the Global Evangelical Movement This conference will address the question of Chinese and North American Evangelical identity in the twenty-first century. The introduction of the Evangelical movement and its growth in China has created complex questions for the church in China. The success of the Chinese churches and global Christianity, at the same time, also challenges the identity of the Evangelical church in North America. Under the leadership of Dr. David Pao (TEDS) and Dr. Rick Cook (TEDS) in partnership with Evangel Seminary (Hong Kong, China) and China Evangelical Seminary (Taipei, Taiwan), this conference will bring together Evangelical scholars and theologians working in both the North American and Chinese contexts. They will consider Western, Chinese and global perspectives of understanding the Evangelical movement. The conference will be held in Hong Kong, with representatives and students from around the world. The conference will consist of nine plenary sessions, each including two presenters (one Western and one Chinese) and a moderator. Each session will address important questions for the global Evangelical movement from a different discipline (History, Old Testament, New Testament, Biblical Theology, Theological Education, Christian Education, Intercultural Studies, Contextual Theology, and Pastoral Counseling). There will be time for questions at each session, and there are plans to publish the conference in book form. If you are interested in attending the conference, please contact Henry Center Director, Owen Strachan, at ostracha@tiu.edu.
